Here’s What You Need
First, let’s prepare the stuff you will need for this project.
- 1 S hook
- 1 wood ring
- 120 ft. or around 36.5 metre of 3mm macrame cords
- 30 ft. of 3mm macrame cords for gathering knot
- Scissors
- A hook or ceiling mount to hang the plant hanger from
And last but not least, you will need a creative mind prepared to instil your passion to each knot and the proper amount of patience and focus.
Let’s Start Making Them
Once you have all the materials prepared, now it’s time to start the project. Below are the step-by-step instructions to create your very own beautiful macrame plant hanger.
1. Hang and start
Take your 120ft macrame string and cut them into 8 parts, each 15ft long. Then once you have your S hook and wood ring in place, hang those 8 strings from their centre point through the ring.
2. Secure the strings
Take the other string you’ve prepared for the gathering knot and use it to secure the strings with a simple spiral knot.
3. Make twisted knots
Divide the strings by fours and use those four strings to make 20 twist knots all the way down.
Once you’ve got the hang of it, repeat the process with the remaining strings.
4. Tie 4 simple knots
Now you will have 4 bundles of cords consisting of 4 strings each. Below the end of your twisted knots, around 12 inches down, tie a simple knot for each bundle.
Once done, you should have 4 simple knots as shown in the picture below.
5. Make 3 square knots
Below the simple knots you just made, now connect the bundles by taking 2 strings from one bundle and 2 more from the bundle next to it, and use those 4 strings to create 3 square knots.
Once you did that with one bundle, continue that pattern with the remaining strings.
6. Finish with gathering knot
Once all the square knots are finished, secure the end with another gathering knot. This knot will be the base that will hold your plant pot.
7. Trim the ends
After that, you can trim the ends or you can opt to create frills for more aesthetic element.
8. Enjoy your beautiful macrame plant hanger
Now all that’s left to do is put your pot of plant on it, and voila! Enjoy your beautiful DIY macrame plant hanger.
